The National Welfare Rights Network (NWRN) provides free and
independent information, advice and representation about Social
Security law and its administration. NWRN member organisations
operate in all states and territories of Australia and consist of
specialist community legal centres and services and individual
advocates. They are independent of Centrelink and all government

“Same-sex de facto
relationships will be recognised under Social Security and Family
Assistance law from 1 July 2009. A new factsheet about this issue
has been posted on the website today. This factsheet is for people in
same-sex relationships who are now treated as single by Centrelink and
are unsure whether they will be treated as a member of a couple by
Centrelink from 1 July 2009. We hope it will be useful for all people
interested or concerned about the changes and for community workers in
the field.”
